Transition

Supporting Smooth Transitions at St Ippolyts Primary School

At St Ippolyts Primary School, we understand how important smooth transitions are for children and their families. Whether starting school for the first time or moving on to secondary school, we aim to make every step of the journey a positive and supportive experience.

Starting Reception

We take great care to help children feel comfortable and confident as they join our Reception class. Before the official transition day, our Reception teachers visit new children in their pre-school settings where possible or at home. These early visits help us begin building warm, trusting relationships and allow children to feel more familiar with their teacher before starting school.

Parents and carers are invited to an information evening, where they can meet the Reception team, learn more about daily routines, and ask any questions. In July, children attend a transition morning at school, where they can explore their new classroom, meet classmates, and start to settle in.

Our aim is for the transition into school to be a positive and exciting time for both children and their families. For those with additional needs or medical conditions, we offer the opportunity to meet with our Special Educational Needs Coordinator (SENCo) so that we can be fully prepared to support your child and learn everything we need to know to help them thrive.

Transition to Secondary School

Moving on to secondary school is a significant milestone, and we provide a carefully planned programme of support throughout Year 6 to prepare our pupils for the next stage in their education. This includes:

  • Visits to local secondary schools
  • Transition workshops
  • Wellbeing and mental health support
  • Close liaison with Year 7 staff and SEN teams at receiving schools

Our goal is to ensure every child leaves St Ippolyts Primary School feeling confident, prepared, and excited for the opportunities ahead.

If you have any questions about transition at St Ippolyts, please don’t hesitate to contact us. We’re here to support every child, every step of the way.
